SGD are passionate about improving the quality of life for employees and their families as well as the local community.

SGD support a number of charities by hosting regular fundraising activities. The causes we support are chosen and nominated by our people; meaning that all charities have at some point touched the lives of our employees or their families. Recent company-wide activities include the Mudnificent 7, Wear it Pink Day, Madhatters Tea Party and Easter Egg-stravaganza.

Some of these events have been gruelling and others plain fun.

Having fun

SGD have an active programme of social events throughout the year, involving partners, friends and family.

Walk with SGD

On Saturday 7th July, some of the SGD team along with family and friends set out on a sponsored walk around Draycote Water in Warwickshire to raise money for Coventry and Warwickshire Mind and the Air Ambulance Service. In scorching heat the team managed to smash our targets and walked a total of 640 miles and raising well over £6,500!

Annual Golf Day

On 28 June SGD held its annual golf day hosted by Head PGA Professional Martin Sutliff at the Coventry Golf Club in Finham. The event was attended by clients, associates and  the SGD directors.

9 teams of 4 budding Rory McIlroys spent the afternoon going around the beautifully kept greens in the glorious sunshine. After 5 gruelling hours under the sun David Burton’s Team (Sean Byrne, Derek Holding & Ivan Hutchings) emerged as the winner with a score of 95 winning by just 1 point, however no one managed a hole in one this year!

In the evening the players and directors were joined by some of the SGD team for a delicious gala dinner and awards ceremony. The winning teams were treated to a selection of golf wear and apparel for their efforts.

Many thanks to Martin Sutliff, Emily Southall and David Burton for making SGD’s 14th golf day at Finham a huge success.

Easter Egg-stravaganza

I think it is safe to say we love our cake here at SGD. This one will be an Easter themed day on 28th March 2018 with a raffle, the main prize will be an Easter themed hamper, there will be pin the tail on the bunny to win a chocolate bunny and there will also be an Easter egg decorating competition to win a giant egg! Hopefully the event will be egg-cellent and raise some more money for our joint charities of the year.

Mad Hatters Tea Party

In 2017 Myton Hospice were celebrating their 35thAnniversary therefore SGD helped to celebrate this by hosting a Mad Hatters Tea Party. We aimed to create a mad day for all of the staff at the firm. Our main attraction was the Mad Hatters Hat competition where individuals were invited to bring in a hat, whether made or bought, to compete for the best hat. The winner received a voucher for Afternoon Tea for Two at a local café. Other events for the day included a cake sale, a game of Irish Bingo and a raffle. Fun was had by all and we raised £562.32 which went to a very good cause.

Mudnificent 7

13 employees and friends of SGD took on the Mudnificent 7 challenge at the Heart of England Conference Centre in August 2017. These brave (and naïve) challengers trooped through mud, scaled 10 foot walls, negotiated monkey bars and swam across cold lakes all for Myton Hospice. The bumps, bruises and aching limbs were worth it though as we raised £5,692 for this worthy cause but I think it’s safe to say, another SGD mud run will not be happening any time soon!

Wear It Pink day

Once a year we move away from our Charities of the Year and join in with the national Wear It Pink Day for Breast Cancer Awareness. Each year the day becomes more extravagant and this year was no exception! All members of staff were encouraged to wear something pink by running a competition for the pinkiest person. Some staff really did not disappoint! The main event for the day was the Olympinks which were held during the lunch break. This was a team challenge with various events to take part in. These include paper tossing, paper plane javelin, a paper clip challenge, binder diving and mental gymnastics. The other events for the day were Win it Pink (pick a picture competition), Guess it Pink (guess the number of sweets in a jar), a Pink Raffle, Bid it Pink (a blind auction on various hampers), Bake it Pink (a cake sale), the sale of Bacon sandwiches. Our huge effort this year managed to raise a whopping £1,008.63.
