On Saturday 7th July, the SGD team set out on a sponsored walk around the beautiful surroundings of Draycote Water in Warwickshire. In total 27 members of the SGD team and 47 friends and family braved the scorching summer heat to complete laps of the 5 mile reservoir.
The walk was organised to raise money for SGD’s chosen charities: Coventry and Warwickshire Mind andthe Air Ambulance Service. The target was for the team to collectively walk 500 miles and raise £6,000 for these two worthy charities.
On the day the dedicated walkers managed to smash the target, walking a total of 640 miles and raising an amazing £7,418 for the charities! Well done all!
There were even a notable few walkers, Tom Ainge and Ashley Power who ran the majority of the 20 miles that they each completed! What was even more amazing was that everyone made it home in time to see England get through to the World Cup Semi-Finals! What a fantastic day!
A huge thank you to all of the SGD charity team who organised this great event: Sophie Breeze, Rebecca Garratt, Andy Hart and Jade Spencer. A big thank you to Draycote Water for allowing us to host our event; Tesco Cannon Park, Morrison’s Holyhead, Morrison’s Binley and Sainsbury’s Dunchurch for their kind donations of snacks that helped us through the walk . But most of all a massive thank you to our volunteers and sponsors who helped us raise such vital funds for Coventry and Warwickshire Mind and the Air Ambulance Service.
